Ultrasound-Guided Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)

How can Ultrasound Scanners be useful in every step of BBL?

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or Gluteal fat grafting is a specialized fat transfer procedure that augments the size of the buttocks and reshapes them without implants.

The main aim is to always keep the gluteal fat injection level under the skin and above the muscle level. However, injecting fat blindly is very risky. That’s why ultrasound scanners are of paramount importance throughout the whole process.

This simple procedure comprises 4 major steps:

Step 1: Infiltration

In order to properly prepare for this step, ultrasound scanners are used in order to choose the appropriate part of the body where excessive amounts of fat are located. The plastic surgeon, then, injects the needed area with a local anesthetic fluid, preparing it for the next step.

Step 2: Vaser Liposuction

In this step, ultrasound energy is used to melt the fat. Ultrasound scanners, here, are needed to make sure that the whole quantity of fat needed is being melted.

Step 3: Suctioning

A cannula is inserted in order to suck all the melted fat, before it is purified and put in syringes ready for injection in the targeted buttocks areas. Ultrasound scanners are essential in this step to make sure all the melted fat, needed for transfer, has been sucked.

Step 4: Fat injection

In this final step, the collected and purified fat is injected into the patient’s buttocks area. This procedure cannot be done blindly, as it used to be done before. Ultrasound scanners are needed to show where exactly injections should be done. The importance of the ultrasound scanners resides in the elimination of minor to life-threatening complications, including injured deep buttock vessels.

Which Ultrasound Scanner for Ultrasound-Guided Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)?

Most of the time, our plastic surgeon clients opt for the double head SIFULTRAS-5.42 thanks to its versatile depth range.

An ultrasound probe is essential to avoid injuring the deep vessels, further decreasing the risks of major complications.

Ultrasound scanner is used in this procedure as a precise method to monitor the cannula level and keep the injection site in a safe plane over the muscle, resulting in Safe BBL Guided with Ultrasound Monitoring.

The procedure entails using the SIFULTRAS-5.42 placed on the buttocks in order to identify the tissue layers, as the blunted cannula is introduced to the scanned area at the same time.

As the fat injection starts, the SIFULTRAS-5.42 images are projected wirelessly to a screen, so that the surgeon and assistant could follow the planes in which the cannula is being introduced.

In conclusion ultrasound imaging provides a precise objective method to avoid injuring the deep buttock vessels, and to further decrease the risks of major complications regarding the BBL surgery.

Creating a “nautical chart” is enormously useful to the surgeon who wants to assure complete subcutaneous fat infiltration.
Given the thickness of the subcutaneous tissue that can be enormously different from one patient to another, the usefulness of this technique for patient safety cannot be rated highly enough.

A BBL surgery is done by a Plastic surgeon.
